Book Two
Chapter Six
It's Athletics Day at Tomoeda Elementary and Sakura is very excited because she loves sports, and her family and Yukito have come to watch! Touya has brought lunch and tells Sakura her father will be over soon since he is teaching class and will participate in the parent's race. When the PA system announces that the cheerleading club is gathering, Sakura goes to meet up with Tomoyo and learns Tomoyo's mother, a big toy executive will be coming to Athletics day too. After Sakura's cheerleading routine, everyone gathers for lunch and Sakura notices a strange amount of flower petals falling. Sakura's father finally arrives, apologizing for missing Sakura's routine and brings everyone jello. After everyone's finished eating, Yukito and Sakura's father go to throw the trash away when Tomoyo's mother, Sonomi comes. Tomoyo introduces her mother to Sakura and her mother remarks that Sakura looks a lot like someone Sonomi once knew and asks what's Sakura's last name is. Just then Sakura's father returns and Sonomi starts screaming! As it turns out the two know each other, Sakura's father was once Sonomi's high school teacher-- and had married Sonomi's cousin and Sakura and Touya's mother Nadeshiko when she was still Sakura's father's student. Sonomi is furious at Fujitaka, Sakura's father, for taking her beloved cousin away when she was till so young and swears to never forgive him. Sonomi and Nadeshiko were first cousins, and Nadeshiko was a daughter to a very rich family and when she married her teacher it caused a rift in the family, especially when Nadeshiko got sick and Sonomi was opposed to the marriage the entire time. Despite the amount of hate Sonomi has for Fujitaka, she still agrees to participate in the Parent's Race. The race between the two becomes intense, but suddenly the falling flower petals become overwhelming and Sakura begins to suspect a Clow Card is at work.
Chapter Seven
The flower petals continue to fall, but neither Sonomi nor Fujitaka are prepared to quit the race. Though the two are undetered by the flowers, everyone else is getting buried and Sakura decides she must interfere and find the card. Using Fly, Sakura and Tomoyo go above the city to try to find the card and gives the racing goal line to Chiharu and Rika. Tomoyo suggests calling Kero-chan and Kero-chan tells them to find the location of the card, and Sakura finds it on the roof. Meanwhile Sonomi and Fujitaka are still racing, despite the fact that Chiharu and Rika can barely hold the goal line above themselves. Yukito and Touya take over and tell them to run away. Sakura prepares to seal the card, but the girl card would rather dance than be sealed. Tomoyo tells Kero-chan what is happening and he explains that the card is harmless and funloving. Sakura finally seals the card, learning its true name is Flower and Kero-chan says it was probably attracted by the festivities of Athletics day but drowned out the crowd with flower petals because it was mad it wasn't invited. Back at the race, Fukitaka has finally crossed the finish line, becoming the winner and infuriating Sonomi more than ever. With all the flower petals, the rest of Athletics day is cancelled and everyone goes to clean up the petals when Sakura notices her father and Tomoyo's mother are gone and Touya tells her they went behind the school. Sakura grabs Tomoyo and they go to find their parents and find them arguing over Nadeshiko, once again. Sonomi is furious she lost to Fujitaka, but Fujitaka explains he could not lose on purpose. Seeing the two fight, Tomoyo suggests to Sakura to use the flower card to summon 'their flower'. Two Nadeshiko blossoms appear and the two suddenly forget their fight, and only remember how much they both loved her. Sakura is happy that they stopped fighting and are glad her mother and Tomoyo's mother loved each other. Sakura she loves Tomoyo too, but Tomoyo says off hand that she loves Sakura in a different way than Sakura loves her. Sakura is oblivious to what she meant and they go back to help clean. But of in the distance, a boy in Chinese robes remarks he has found what he was looking for.
Chapter Eight
Sakura is worried because Yukito's birthday is coming up and she has no idea what to get him. Tomoyo suggests they ask Rika because she also has a crush on an older person and is very mature. Rika asks a few questions about what kind of person Yukito is and eventually suggests they all go shopping together. Class starts and the teacher announces they have a new foriegn exchange student, Shaoran Li from China. Everyone is excited but Sakura seems nervous since he keeps glaring at her and all day gets a weird feeling from him. After Japanese class, he asks her to come with him. Outside Shaoran pulls out a board and recites an incantation and declares Sakura has Clow Cards since his board has the power to detect them. He demands Sakura to give the cards to him, but Sakura refuses and says she made a promise to Kero to bring the cards back. Shaoran asks her an additional series of questions, before calling her useless and tries to seize the cards by force! Tomoyo tries to help, but Sakura is saved by her older brother but Shaoran escapes his grasp and strikes Touya back. Before the fight gets too intense, Yukito arrives with food and offers it to everyone. Syaoran blushes and runs off, leaving Sakura confused. Later that day Tomoyo and Sakura talk about the experience but Sakura tells Tomoyo she has been unable to get in contact with Kero-chan. Rika takes the girls to a shop to find presents and Sakura finds a cute rice bowl for Yukito when Rika spots a display of brooches and they all decide to get one. Sakura returns home and Touya asks if she ran into Shaoran again, she says no and goes to talk with Kero-chan. He is deep asleep and in his sleep says the word 'Yue' and 'Yue don't the cards will...' before sleep-flying and crashing into a wall. When he finally wakes up Sakura tells him about what happened at school. Kero explains Shaoran Li is from the Li family, the Chinese side of Clow Reed's lineage, the other being English. Clow created a new kind of magic with the powers he inheritated from both sides of his family, but his Chinese side was strong in its own right and Shaoran Li is probably a relation to Clow. Sakura begins to think not giving him the cards was a mistake but Kero-chan explains since she unsealed the book and signed her name to them, they are hers and only hers. Kero begins to wonder why Li would come to collect the cards and Sakura asks what Kero-chan meant when they first met that the 'cards will cause a disaster'. Kero-chan is very vague in his description, but Sakura seems satified with the answer and goes to answer the door. Her friend Rika has come but seems to be acting strangely. When Sakura asks what's wrong, Rika summons a sword and begins attack Sakura!
Chapter Nine
Rika nearly strikes Sakura with the sword when Kero-chan comes downstairs and tells Sakura the blade is the Sword Card but Sakura doesn't understand why Rika is doing this since she isn't a fencer. Kero-chan explains she is possessed and doesn't need to be a sword expert to use the card. Sakura uses Flower to cause a deversion and Jump to escape Sword, but Rika chases after her. Kero warns her that the card can cut mountains if the master is strong enough. Sakura refuses to hurt Rika, but can't figure out a way to seal the card. Suddenly Shaoran appears and prepare to attack Rika, but Sakura stops him. Kero-chan tells her she must get the Sword out of Rika's hand to stop Sword's spell. Using the Illusion, Sakura creates the image of the person Rika likes most, and distracted Sakura knocks Sword out of Rika's hand. She seals the card, but Shaoran insults her. Kero-chan comes to Sakura's defense, but Shaoran insults him too but Kero-chan bits him. Yukito comes over and asks what had happened and spotting the bite on Shaoran's hand asks if he is okay. Once again, Shaoran blushes and runs off. The next day Sakura goes and gives Rika a new brooch to replace the Sword card one. Just then, Terada-sensei comes in and gives Rika an engagement ring (editorial comment: ew! NOT KOSHER!). Meanwhile, Yukito tells Touya about Shaoran coming over, infuriating Touya. As Touya is pulling a leaf off of Yukito, a fire Ofuda hits him and he spots Shaoran. But before they can fight again, Sakura comes and gives Yukito the birthday present she bought him. Then blushing, Shaoran gives him a gift too and runs off. Sakura doesn't understand what just happened, but Tomoyo tell her Sakura now has a rival in catching cards and in love!
Chapter Ten
Sakura is having a sleepover with Tomoyo where they watch Sakura's capture of her newest card: The Thunder. Kero-chan says she still isn't very strong, but she will get more powerful with each new card and he promises to guard Sakura no matter what and secretly adds she hopes she can overcome her own disaster. The next morning Sakura and Tomoyo go shopping for Valentine's Day candy and find Touya working at the candy shop. They also run into Chiharu and Rika who are shopping for candy for their own sweethearts. Sakura then notices that a girl in the shop's shadow was looking in a different direction than the one she was facing before turning back. Then the shadow escapes the girl entirely and pulls a shelf down! Touya prevents the shadow from hitting anyone but Sakura becomes suspitious. Shaoran then comes into the shop and declare there is a Clow Card around. At home Touya discusses the strange event in the store and says it was caused by something non-human, and his father states he is sensitive just like his mother, though he himself isn't sensitive at all. That evening, Sakura goes out to find the card with Kero-chan and Tomoyo. Kero tells her to try to sense the card and Sakura points it out. The shadow attacks Sakura and she tries to escape it, and Kero declares the card is Shadow. Sakura manages to escape it, only to run into Shaoran and more insults about her ability. Kero-chan comes to her defense, but Shaoran ignores him and sends forth a set of Ofuda papers. The Ofudas fail and the Shadow attacks Shaoran and Sakura. Shaoran defends her for the brunt of the attack and summons the power of thunder and lightning to light up the shadow cards. The light works somewhat, but Kero says the other shadows must be dispelled with light in order to expose the main body. Sakura gets an idea and summons the Thunder card, Shaoran begins to insult her again for trying the same thing he just did, but instead of hitting Shadow itself, Sakura aims for the street lights around it. The body of Shadow appears and Sakura uses Sword to trap it and seals it. Sakura then grabs a hankerchef and cleans the wound Shaoran received from the Shadow card and thanks him for the idea. He brushes it off and walks away, leaving Sakura to put out the fire she caused by zapping the street lights. The next day is Valentine's Day and everyone is giving chocolate to their sweethearts and Sakura notices Shaoran is gone. Yamazaki explains that he has gone to the high school to give someone a gift, since he didn't tell Shaoran Valentine's Day is only for girls to give gifts to guys. Realizing Shaoran was going to give candy Yukito, Sakura runs over to the school. Yukito and Touya are talking and Yukito wonders why Touya dislikes Shaoran so much, but allows him to talk to his sister. Before Touya can explain, Sakura and Shaoran interrupt and give Yukito their chocolates. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman is looking at the school
